Yes Marillion! Are they still going I hear you cry? Well yes they are and have been going from strength to strength ever since good ole Fish departed for pastures new.
Long gone are the days of Kayleigh and Lavendar and a more refreshing direction appeared in the form of the equally imposing figure of Steve Hogarth who joined the band in 1987 after the sudden departure of Fish after the 1987 tour "Clutching at Straws". Ian Mosley replaced Mick Pointer in 1984 and the line up has remained the same ever since.
So whats so good about Mariliion, well whether you like the music or not there is one thing they know how to do and do well, thats look after there fans. How many other bands do you know that throw there very own "Fans weekend" I don't know of any others but the past three Marillion weekends that have attended two held at Butlins in Minehead and one at Port Zelander have been a raging success, we have also made some great friends along the way. The next Marillion weekend is scheduled for March 20th -23rd 2009 again back in Centre Parcs (Port Zelander) in Holland and its selling out fast! This will be my forth weekend, I can't wait.
At each weekend you not only get to hear some of there best stuff, old and new but you also get to meet the band, I ask you what other band does this for its fans?.
The forth coming 15th Album will be entitled "Happiness is the road" and is available to pre-order via the Marillion web site and will be available in the shops between July and September 2008 -I'm looking forward to hearing the new tracks on the forthcoming tour and weekend
What ever your pre-conceptions are about this band, chances are they are probably wrong!
Marillion are: Steve Hogarth - Vocals, Steve Rothery - Guitar, Pete Trewavas - Bass, Ian Mosely - Drums, Mark Kelly - Keyboards.
